Potentiometers, Trimmers and Precision Multi-Turn Pots

Potentiometers here run from small PCB trimmers to panel-mount controls and precision multi-turn pots: single-turn and multi-turn trimpots, wirewound panel pots, 10-turn precision potentiometers for instruments and servo feedback, locking-shaft pots, and slide faders for audio work.

To match a replacement, read five things off the old part: resistance (often a three-digit code like 102 for 1K or 503 for 50K), number of turns, taper (linear or audio), mounting (PCB, panel or bracket) and the shaft or adjuster style. On trimmers, check whether the adjust screw is on the top or the side, and match the pin layout and spacing to the old part.

Makers include Helipot Beckman, Spectrol, Bourns, Mallory, Clarostat, Ohmite, Alps, Copal and Jim-Pak. The Helipot and Spectrol 10-turn pots are the kind found in bench supplies, test gear and lab instruments of the 1970s and 1980s.
