Product Overview
Ohmite Type AB 2.5K Ohm Locking Potentiometer, Unused and Already Mounted on Its Steel Bracket
Condition
Unused, new old stock, clean and in excellent condition. The photographs show the control already fastened to its formed steel mounting bracket, the way it left the shelf. The rear label is fully legible and reads OHMITE / TYPE AB / CLU2521 / RV4LAYSA252A / 2.5K ohm / 8617 / MEXICO. The bracket is bright yellow zinc plating with the iridescent color variation normal to that finish, stamped 16H2572 alongside a small triangle logo, with two mounting holes in the lower flange and a locating hole punched beside the bushing. All three solder lug terminals are bright with open, empty eyes - no solder, no wire, no tinning residue in the holes. The bushing hardware and the slotted shaft end are bright and unmarked, and a brown phenolic ring is visible between the metal cover and the terminal face.

Product Overview
This is a single Ohmite Type AB rotary potentiometer, part number CLU2521, printed 2.5K ohm on the body, supplied assembled to a formed steel mounting bracket stamped 16H2572. The Type AB is Ohmite's classic round composition-element control with a threaded bushing, three solder lug terminals and a metal-covered body. This one is the locking, screwdriver-adjust configuration: the shaft end is a slotted stub set inside a hex nut rather than a long round shaft for a knob, so the setting is dialed with a blade and then clamped in place. The body also carries RV4LAYSA252A, the military-style number in the RV4 family, where the 252 group reads as 2500 ohms and matches the printed 2.5K. The label ends 8617, which on labels of this style reads as a date code, and MEXICO for the point of manufacture. Power rating, resistance tolerance and taper are not printed on the part and are not confirmed here - check the Ohmite Type AB datasheet or the RV4 slash sheet before you design around them.
Key Features
- Resistance: 2.5K ohm (2500 ohms), printed on the body label
- Manufacturer part number: CLU2521, Ohmite Type AB series
- Military-style number on the same label: RV4LAYSA252A
- Terminals: three solder lugs, bright, eyes open and unused
- Shaft: slotted screwdriver-adjust stub with a hex locking nut at the bushing
- Included: formed steel mounting bracket stamped 16H2572, yellow zinc plated, two flange mounting holes plus a locating hole at the bushing
- Label markings: 8617 code group and MEXICO
- Quantity available: one piece, the exact unit photographed
- Not confirmed: power rating, tolerance and taper - verify against the Type AB datasheet before use
Applications
- Maintenance electrician replacing a set-and-forget calibration control in a legacy panel, where the locking bushing keeps the setting from drifting under vibration
- Radio and test-gear restorer matching an original Ohmite Type AB in 1980s equipment instead of dropping in a modern plastic-body substitute
- Bench builder who wants a screwdriver-adjust trim control with real solder lugs, mounted to a bracket that already bolts down
- Collector or archivist keeping a documented, date-coded Ohmite control on hand as a matched spare
Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is printed on this potentiometer?
The rear label reads OHMITE, TYPE AB, CLU2521, RV4LAYSA252A, 2.5K ohm, 8617, MEXICO. Every one of those lines is legible in the photographs, so you can confirm the part before you buy rather than after it arrives.
Is the mounting bracket included, and what is it?
Yes. The potentiometer ships mounted on it exactly as photographed. It is a formed steel bracket in yellow zinc plating, stamped 16H2572 with a small triangle logo, with two holes in the lower flange for bolting down and a locating hole beside the bushing. We have not identified who assigned the 16H2572 stamp, so if you are matching an original assembly, verify that number against your own documentation.
Does this take a knob?
Not as it sits. The shaft end is a short slotted stub inside a hex nut, meant for a screwdriver, which is what makes this the locking style rather than a front-panel knob control. Look at the front and side photographs to confirm the shaft geometry fits your application before ordering.
Are the resistance, taper and power rating verified?
The 2.5K ohm value is what the manufacturer printed on the body, and 252 in the RV4LAYSA252A string agrees with it. We have not published a measured value, and tolerance, taper and wattage are not marked on this part. Measure it on arrival or check the Ohmite Type AB datasheet if your circuit depends on a tight number.
Why buy this one bracketed Ohmite instead of chasing a surplus lot of potentiometers?
Because this is one specific control, photographed from every side, with its label, its code group and its bracket stamp all readable before you commit. Stock here is a single piece, and that piece is the one in the pictures. A mixed auction lot or a bag of unmarked controls costs you sorting time and usually delivers every value except the one you needed. Shipping is $8 flat rate, free once your order passes $28, and orders leave our Idaho warehouse the same or next business day.
An 8617 code group, a MEXICO line, and a bracket somebody already picked out for it - this Ohmite got completely outfitted for an installation that never happened. Set the slot where you want it, snug the locking nut, and let it hold that one value for whatever you are keeping alive.
