Victoreen made glass-sealed resistors for ionization chambers, which put out currents down in the picoamps. Fingerprint oil, salt and damp on the glass form a leakage path that can swamp a reading. This one is 1.47 megohm, unused, in its cardboard sleeve, so the risk is milder, but hold it by the leads anyway. Isopropyl alcohol cleans a smudged one.
