Product Overview

60GA is Sprague's 6 kV ceramic disc line, published elsewhere from 50 pF up to 3000 pF (per vendor stock listings). This piece still has its own paperwork with it: the orange disc is stamped SPRAGUE / 1.5M / 6KV, and the Sprague carton label photographed beside it reads .000001.5 MF, 6000 VOLTS, CAT. NO. 60GA V15, with GA on the TYPE line and 5030 in the box under the catalog number. That label is what sets the value at 1.5 pF and corrects the 1.5 MF that had been riding on the old name. Two on the shelf, sold each; what ships is the capacitor, not the label.

Key Features

  • Capacitance: 1.5 pF, from the carton label reading .000001.5 MF photographed with this part; the body is stamped 1.5M
  • Voltage: 6 kV, marked 6KV on the body and 6000 VOLTS on that carton label
  • Catalog number: 60GA V15, printed on the Sprague carton label shown
  • Type: GA, from the TYPE field on that same label. No temperature-coefficient code appears on the body or on the label
  • Marking string, verbatim from the body: SPRAGUE, 1.5M, 6KV. We have no published Sprague key for the trailing M, so nothing is claimed from it
  • Package: orange-coated ceramic disc, roughly half an inch (about 14 mm) across estimated against the rule in the photos, so treat that figure as approximate
  • Leads: two radial leads from the bottom edge, long and untrimmed as photographed
  • No Sprague 60GA datasheet was located, so verify against a current manufacturer's published 6 kV ceramic disc data before designing in.

Applications

  • High voltage coupling and standoff in tube transmitter stages
  • Small trim values on 6 kV rated nodes
  • Vintage high voltage instrument and supply restoration
  • Bench spares for high voltage experimenter builds

Frequently Asked Questions

How many should I order? Order the count the build needs. Two are on the shelf and they sell one at a time. Shipping is $8 flat rate and free on orders over $28, so small parts like this ship smartest as part of a larger order.

Why is a 1.5 pF part this big? The rating is what the size is buying: 6KV on the body, 6000 VOLTS on the carton label. Against the rule in the photos the disc runs roughly half an inch across, which is large for the value, and no published 60GA construction or dimensional data was located to say more than that. Check your own clearances before it goes on a board.

Six kilovolts standing behind a picofarad and a half, with the carton label still there to say so.
