Product Overview

RCA CD4053BE Triple 2-Channel Analog Multiplexer in a 16-Pin Plastic DIP

Condition

New old stock. The topside is printed CD4053BE over RCA 919. Pin 1 is called out by the notch at one end and the small molded numeral 1 beside it; the circular molded marks at both ends of the package are mold-cavity marks rather than a pin 1 dot. The underside carries NEHU, a circled number, and R373. That circled number is a single mark, not two: it reads 601 held one way up and 109 turned around, and we do not know which reading was intended. The eight leads facing the camera in the close-up are bright silver, full length and straight in line, with thick lumpy buildup at the lead shoulders that could be heavy factory tinning or earlier soldering - we have not tested or reworked this part and make no call either way. The far row of leads is not shown clearly enough to describe. One flash-lit close-up washes that underside out pale gray so only the molded circle stays legible, while the other shot of the same face reads flat black with all three markings. The photos show the part loose in hand, with no packaging pictured.

Product Overview

The CD4053BE is a CMOS 4000B series triple 2-channel analog multiplexer and demultiplexer, sold here as an RCA-branded part in a 16-pin plastic dual inline package for through-hole mounting. It holds three independent single-pole double-throw switch sections, each steered by its own select input, so one control line picks between two channels per section and the same switch passes signal in either direction, which is why the part is called both a multiplexer and a demultiplexer. Buyers usually search it as 4053, CD4053B, or CD4053BE, and it is commonly cross-referenced against other 4053B family parts from other makers; confirm pinout and electrical limits against the CD4053B datasheet before substituting. Electrical ratings are not confirmed here beyond what is printed on the part itself, and the RCA 919 line is the manufacturer marking as photographed, not a decoded date we can vouch for.

Key Features

  • Part number: CD4053BE, printed on the topside
  • Brand: RCA, printed as RCA 919 on the second marking line
  • Function: triple 2-channel analog multiplexer / demultiplexer, three independent 2-channel switch sections
  • Family: CMOS 4000B series
  • Package: 16-pin plastic dual inline package (DIP), through-hole leads
  • Pin 1 cues: an end notch and a molded numeral 1 - the circles at both package ends are mold-cavity marks, not a pin 1 dot
  • Underside markings: NEHU, a circled number, and R373 - one circled mark that reads 601 one way up and 109 turned around
  • Lead condition: full length and straight in line; the eight leads shown in close-up are bright silver with heavy lumpy shoulder buildup we do not classify
  • Condition: new old stock
  • Supply range, on-resistance, and switching times: not confirmed - verify against the CD4053B datasheet before use

Applications

  • Synth and effects techs rebuilding a vintage audio board where a 4053 handles channel select and signal routing
  • Bench engineers prototyping a three-section analog switch stage without designing in relays
  • Arcade, test gear, and vintage computer repairers replacing a failed 4053 in an original through-hole socket
  • Instrumentation builders steering three signal pairs into a single measurement path under logic control

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is printed on the part I will receive?

The topside reads CD4053BE on the first line and RCA 919 on the second, with an end notch and a molded numeral 1 marking pin 1. The underside carries NEHU, a circled number, and R373; that circled number is one mark, and it reads 601 one way up and 109 turned around. Those are the markings visible in our photos of this stock.

What does a triple 2-channel multiplexer actually do on a board?

It gives you three separate switch sections in one 16-pin package. Each section connects a common pin to one of two channel pins depending on its select input, and because the switch is bidirectional the same section works as a multiplexer feeding signals in or a demultiplexer sending them out. Three sections under logic control replace a small pile of discrete switching.

Can I drop this in where another maker's 4053B is called out?

The 4053B is an industry-standard function and this is the RCA version of it, but we do not test cross-brand substitution. Check the pinout, supply range, and on-resistance in the CD4053B datasheet against your circuit before you commit, especially if the original design ran near its voltage or signal limits.

Why buy the two or three pieces I actually need here instead of a bag of 100 from a lot listing?

Because a repair rarely needs 100 of anything. This is RCA-marked stock we have photographed piece for piece, and you order the count your job calls for: one for the board on the bench, a couple more for the drawer, and nothing else. Stock on hand is limited rather than endless, so what is listed is what we have. Shipping is $8 flat rate and goes free once the order passes $28, and orders leave our Idaho warehouse the same or next business day.

RCA helped write the book on CMOS, and the 4053 was the quiet traffic cop that let three signal pairs change lanes with no relay in sight. If a board on your bench is waiting on that exact 16-pin part, this one is ready to go back to work.
