Product Overview
General Instrument's MBR1060 is a single Schottky barrier rectifier rated for 10 A average forward current and 60 V peak repetitive reverse voltage. The two-lead TO-220AC case puts the cathode on the mounting tab, built for low-voltage, high-current rectification such as the output stage of a switching supply.
Key Features
- Part number MBR1060, GI logo on the body
- Single Schottky barrier rectifier
- Peak repetitive reverse voltage (VRRM): 60 V
- Average forward current (IF(AV)): 10 A
- Peak forward surge current (IFSM): 150 A for 8.3 ms
- Maximum junction temperature: 150 C
- Package: JEDEC TO-220AC, two leads, case is the cathode
Applications
- Output rectifier on the secondary of a 5 V or 12 V switching supply
- Blocking diode between a solar panel and a battery, so the battery cannot discharge back through the panel at night
- OR-ing two DC supplies onto one rail for a backup feed
- Reverse-polarity protection at the power input of a 12 V or 24 V project
- Freewheeling diode across a DC motor, solenoid or relay coil
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the mounting tab electrically live?
Yes. The tab is the cathode, so on a heatsink that is grounded or shared with other parts it needs an insulating pad and shoulder washer.
Is this a single diode or a center-tap dual?
A single diode. The two-lead TO-220AC case holds one junction; center-tap dual Schottkys use the three-lead TO-220AB case.

The barrier is named for Walter Schottky, who explained the metal-to-semiconductor junction that does the rectifying inside this GI body. Size up the rail, then order what the bench needs.
