Product Overview
The TIP32C is the top voltage grade of the TIP32 PNP power series, the suffix ladder running 40 V with no letter, 60 V for A, 80 V for B and 100 V for C (onsemi's published TIP32C data).
39 are on the shelf, sold each. The representative unit photographed carries three marks on the black face: a small circular factory stamp reading MEXICO around its rim, TIP32C on the line under it, and the Motorola batwing followed by 608 at the bottom. 608 stays a string on this page. No Motorola or onsemi document behind the data we work from publishes a decode for these stamped codes, so we read it off the body and stop there rather than turn it into a date. The metal tab is bare with the mounting hole clear and unbent, the back of the tab photographs a dull red-brown, and the three leads are full length and straight, bright in the front views, with a small amber-toned smear of residue at the base of two of them.
Key Features
- Polarity: PNP silicon power transistor
- VCEO: -100 V, the C voltage grade (per onsemi's published TIP32C data)
- IC: -3.0 A continuous (per onsemi)
- PD: 40 W at TC = 25 degC (per onsemi)
- Package: TO-220 plastic, three leads, metal tab with mounting hole
- Mount: through-hole
- Series: TIP31/TIP32 is the published complementary pair, so the grade-matched NPN counterpart to this part by number is a TIP31C (per onsemi's tip31a-d data, which covers TIP31A/B/C and TIP32A/B/C)
- Body marking on the unit photographed: MEXICO stamp, TIP32C, Motorola batwing, 608
- We quote no pin assignment or tab connection here, because the data we work from does not publish one for this package; check onsemi's published TIP32C data against your board before mounting
- Verify against onsemi's published TIP32C data before designing in.
Applications
- PNP side of a complementary audio output or driver stage
- Series pass element in a linear supply
- Relay, solenoid and small motor drive
- Repair of legacy boards built around the TIP32 family
Frequently Asked Questions
How many should I order?
Order the count the build needs. 39 are here and they sell one at a time, so a channel's worth plus the spares you will want on the bench come off a single order rather than two. Shipping is $8 flat rate and free on orders over $28, so small parts like this ship smartest as part of a larger order.
Is a TIP29C the complement to this one?
No, and this is worth getting right before you order. Per onsemi's published data the complementary pairs run TIP29/TIP30, TIP31/TIP32 and TIP41/TIP42, so a PNP TIP32C pairs by number with an NPN TIP31C - never with a TIP29 of any grade. Grade matters as well: a TIP31B is the 80 V part against this one's 100 V, so it is not a matched pair either. If your circuit needs the true complement to this transistor it is a TIP31C, and a TIP31C is not what this listing ships. What ships is the transistor alone: no heatsink, no insulator, no mounting hardware.
39 on the shelf, and the one in these photographs is still waiting on the amplifier channel that lost its PNP half.
