Product Overview

A Vintage Gold-Lead Metal Can Marked iD 182709 547, Unused and Still Unidentified

Condition

Listed New and unused. All three leads are full length, uncut and unformed, with bright gold colored plating and no solder, tinning, flux, or board residue anywhere on them. The can is clean brushed metal with light handling marks, no dents, no corrosion, and a crimped base flange with what looks like a small index tab. The side of the can carries a stylized iD logo followed by 182709 547, all on one continuous line that wraps around the can, so it takes a couple of rotated views to read the whole marking end to end. In one photo the part sits beside a green note card hand written 182709 547, which is our own reference card and not manufacturer packaging. Sold loose, with no bag, box, datasheet, or documentation. The part is small enough to be held between two fingertips in the photos; no ruler shot is available, so we state no dimensions.

Same or next business day shipping from our Idaho warehouse. Honest pricing, no nonsense.

Product Overview

This is a three-lead round metal can device of the style long used for small-signal semiconductors, still unused, with gold colored leads at full uncut length. What we can tell you is exactly what the camera shows: a stylized iD logo, then the number 182709, then 547, running as one line around the side of the can. We have not matched the iD mark to a manufacturer, and 182709 reads more like a house or customer part number than a JEDEC type, so we will not call this a specific device. Whether 547 is a date code, a bin code, or part of the number is not confirmed either. Function, polarity, pinout, and all electrical ratings are not confirmed; identify them on your own bench or against a datasheet before use. It is offered as what it is, a clean unused vintage can with a legible marking and an unsolved identity, priced and photographed accordingly.

Key Features

  • Case marking: stylized iD logo plus 182709 547 on one line wrapping around the can
  • Package: round metal can, crimped base flange, apparent small index tab
  • Leads: three, gold colored plating, full length, uncut and unformed
  • Solder history: none visible, no tinning, flux, or board residue on any lead
  • Condition: New, unused, sold loose with no packaging or paperwork
  • Device type and manufacturer: not confirmed, no JEDEC number and no identified maker
  • Pinout, polarity, and electrical ratings: not confirmed, verify by test before use

Applications

  • Bench technician with a curve tracer who buys unknown metal cans, characterizes them, and files the good ones into a labeled drawer
  • Semiconductor collector documenting obscure house marks and logos, adding an unattributed iD can to the reference tray
  • Restorer dressing a period-correct display chassis or non-powered mock-up where an original-era gold-lead can has to look right
  • Instructor showing students package construction: crimped can, index tab, gold plated leads, markings wrapped around the can

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 182709 the part number or a date code?

Not confirmed. The photos show 547 following directly after 182709 on the same line of marking, which wraps around the can. We cannot match 182709 to a JEDEC type, and we cannot confirm 547 as a date code. Treat both as case markings and verify anything you need before designing the part in.

Who made it, and what is the iD logo?

Not confirmed. We have not identified the manufacturer behind the stylized iD mark, and we would rather say so than guess. If you recognize the logo, we would genuinely like to hear about it.

Is it actually a transistor?

Not confirmed. The three-lead metal can is the package style used for small-signal transistors and other devices of the era, but with no datasheet and no test data we will not label it. Identify function and pinout yourself before connecting it to anything.

Have the leads ever been soldered?

No solder is visible in any photo. All three leads run to full uncut length, are unformed, and show bright gold colored plating with no tinning, flux, or board residue.

It is unidentified and untested, so what am I actually taking on?

Exactly what the photos show and nothing more: a clean, unused, three-lead gold-lead metal can marked iD 182709 547, sold loose with no datasheet, no pinout, and no test data. We have not powered it, curve traced it, or matched it to a type, and we will not write down a spec we cannot prove. The photos are the spec here, so if a marking is not legible in them we cannot confirm it. Buy it as a puzzle to characterize on your own bench, a period-correct display piece, or an entry for your logo reference tray, not as a drop-in replacement for a known device. Shipping is $8 flat rate and free once your order passes $28, and orders leave our Idaho warehouse the same or next business day.

Somebody in a plant somewhere knew exactly what iD 182709 547 meant, and then the paperwork went one way and the parts went another. The can is still sealed and the gold is still bright, so the answer is sitting there waiting for whoever puts it on a curve tracer first.
