Product Overview
GEMÜ Typ 1273 (part number 1273000Z10) is a 2-wire, 4-20 mA reed-chain instrument sensor designed to mount directly onto GEMÜ Series 850 variable area flowmeters in nominal sizes DN 10 through DN 20. It detects the position of a magnetic float magnetically through the flowmeter tube wall and transmits a continuous analog current signal to a PLC, DCS, or panel meter analog input. Calibration is set via onboard min and max potentiometers. Made in Germany.
Key Features
- Output signal: 4-20 mA, 2-wire loop-powered
- Supply voltage: 11-40 VDC
- Metering length: 118 mm
- 35 switch points, 3.5 mm reed contact spacing
- Compatible flowmeters: GEMÜ Series 850, DN 10 to DN 20 with magnetic float
- Electrical connection: right-angle mPm DIN connector (Form A, 3-pin + ground)
- Enclosure rating: IP 65
- Non-digital calibration via min/max potentiometers - no software required
- Slide-on dovetail mounting - clamps directly onto GEMÜ 850 body, no process piping modification
- Body markings: Typ 1273, DN 10-20, Made in Germany, Gepruft; unit number 2944 visible
Applications
- Controls engineer wiring a GEMÜ 850 rotameter into a 2-wire 4-20 mA analog input card on a PLC or DCS - slides the sensor onto the dovetail track, locks the mounting screws, and adjusts the min/max pots to span the float's travel range
- MRO technician replacing a failed continuous readout transmitter on a chemical dosing or cooling water line - disconnects the DIN plug, slides off the failed unit, slides on this replacement, and verifies the PLC resumes a stable 4-20 mA signal without touching the flowmeter body or process piping
- Upgrading a manual-read variable area flowmeter to automated analog monitoring without shutting down the process line or re-engineering the plumbing
- Water treatment and industrial manufacturing plants requiring continuous flow rate transmission to SCADA or distributed control systems
Frequently Asked Questions
Which GEMÜ flowmeters is this sensor compatible with?
The 1273000Z10 is designed for GEMÜ Series 850 variable area flowmeters in nominal sizes DN 10 through DN 20. The flowmeter body must have a molded dovetail mounting track, and the float must contain an integrated permanent magnet. Non-magnetic floats will not actuate the reed switches, resulting in no output signal.
What output signal does this sensor provide, and what does my control system need to accept it?
The sensor outputs a 2-wire 4-20 mA current loop signal. Your control system needs a standard 4-20 mA analog input card - PLC, DCS, or digital panel meter. Supply voltage required is 11-40 VDC from an external source; the sensor is loop-powered and draws no separate power line.
How is the sensor calibrated?
Calibration is performed manually via two onboard potentiometers labeled min and max, adjusted with a small flathead screwdriver. The min pot sets the 4 mA output point corresponding to the float's minimum travel position; the max pot sets the 20 mA output point at maximum float travel. No software or programming interface is required.
Is this sensor compatible with the GEMÜ 1270, 1271, or 1272?
No - these are separate product families with different output signals and flowmeter compatibility. The GEMÜ 1270 and 1271 output a 3-wire passive resistance signal (0-10 kΩ) instead of a 2-wire 4-20 mA current loop, making them incompatible with standard analog input cards configured for 4-20 mA. The GEMÜ 1272 is designed for GEMÜ 800 series flowmeters with a 210 mm metering length and is incompatible with the Series 850 body this sensor fits.
What is included with this sensor?
The sensor unit only. No additional mounting hardware, cables, or documentation are included.
A rotameter that used to need a technician standing in front of it now sends its signal across the plant floor without anyone looking. Slide this on, dial in the span, and the loop closes itself.
