Product Overview
The TM line is Tepro's aluminum housed, chassis-mount precision power wirewound family, an anodized housing over a steatite or alumina core with an epoxy-protected winding and a high-temperature silicone seal, per Tepro's published TM series data. The unit photographed is a black housing with a ribbed top face, stamped in black on black, TEPRO over TM 5W on the top and 2 Ohm 0.1% along the ribbed flank, which takes raking light to read at all. Two mounting ears sit diagonally opposite each other with one bolt hole each, and a flat strap with a pierce hole comes out of each end. One frame lays the part on a light crinkled surface beside a yellow handwritten sticky note reading TEPRO, TM, 5W, 2 Ohm, 0.1%, and the note takes up considerably more of the frame than the resistor does. Three are on the shelf at this value, sold one at a time.
Key Features
- Housing of the unit photographed stamped TEPRO TM 5W on the top face and 2 Ohm 0.1% on the flank, giving 2 ohm at 0.1% tolerance
- Tepro's published TM data rates the TM 5 at 7.5 W on Tepro's own basis and 5 W on the MIL basis, covering 0.005 to 20K ohm; the housing here carries the 5W marking
- TM standard tolerances run +/-0.1% to 5%, with closer tolerances to 0.01% available, so the stamped 0.1% sits at the tight end of the published standard range (Tepro published TM data)
- Temperature coefficient +/-50 ppm across the 1 to 9.9 ohm band, where 2 ohm sits (Tepro published TM data)
- Published rating basis: full power at 25 degC mounted on a proper heat sink, 275 degC maximum hotspot, 1% maximum delta-R over 1000 h load life (Tepro published TM data)
- Dielectric strength 1000 VAC on TM-5, TM-10 and TM-25, insulation resistance 10000 Mohm minimum, environmental test basis MIL-R-18546 (Tepro published TM data)
- Tinned copper flattened-and-pierced terminals are the published style on TM-5 through TM-50, with threaded terminals reserved for TM-100 and TM-250 (Tepro published TM data)
- Verify against Tepro's published TM series data before designing in.
Applications
- Shunt and current sense legs in power supplies and motor drives
- Snubber and damping networks in power stages
- Load and dummy load positions in test setups
- Panel or heatsink mounted spots in industrial control gear
Frequently Asked Questions
How many should I order?
Order the count the build needs. Three of this value are on the shelf, sold one at a time rather than in fixed packs, so a sense leg and a spare come out of a single order. Shipping is $8 flat rate and free on orders over $28, so small parts like this ship smartest as part of a larger order.
Does it have to be bolted to a heat sink?
Tepro's published TM data rates the part at full power at 25 degC with the housing mounted on a proper heat sink, and names a 6 x 4 x 2 x .040 in aluminum chassis as the recommended sink for the TM-5 and TM-10 sizes, with no derating needed out to 75 degC ambient. The two ears on the unit photographed each carry a single bolt hole and no hardware is in the photos, so the screws are yours to supply.
The handwritten note identifying this resistor takes up more of the photograph than the resistor does.
