Product Overview

Amphenol UG-932/U MHV Straight Male Plug - 5000V Peak, 50 Ohm, Bayonet Coupling, RG-58 Compatible

Condition

Unused NOS. The original package this connector came in was beat up, so it was opened to photograph the actual unit you will receive. Connector itself is uninstalled and shows no signs of use. Markings legible: UG-932/U and federal supply code 74868 (Amphenol's legacy CAGE code) etched into the body sleeve. Sourced from a government research facility.

Same or next business day shipping from our Idaho warehouse. Honest pricing, no nonsense.

Product Overview

Amphenol UG-932/U is a Miniature High Voltage (MHV) straight male cable plug for coaxial transmission lines requiring safe, reliable connections up to 5,000V peak. The design looks similar to a standard BNC plug but is not intermateable with BNC jacks - the extended PTFE insulation protrudes past the outer contacts specifically to prevent accidental high-voltage contact. Bayonet coupling for quick connect and disconnect. Body is nickel-plated brass with a beryllium copper center pin contact. Compatible with RG-58, RG-58A, RG-58C, RG-141, and cables of identical outer diameter. Also compatible with RG-59, RG-62, and a range of Belden flexible RF transmission lines.

Key Features

  • MHV (Miniature High Voltage) straight male plug - not intermateable with standard BNC
  • 5,000V peak operational voltage; 3,000V RMS working voltage
  • 50 Ohm impedance; non-constant impedance geometry suited to high-voltage rather than precision RF matching
  • Bayonet-style coupling mechanism for fast, secure mating
  • Brass body with bright nickel plating
  • Beryllium copper center male pin contact
  • Extended PTFE insulation protrudes past outer contacts - built-in shock hazard protection
  • Cable compatibility: RG-58, RG-58A, RG-58C, RG-141, RG-59, RG-62, Belden 8221, 8241, 9169, 9204, 9228, Canare LV-61S
  • Termination: clamp or solder
  • Disassembled components visible: hex nut, center pin, metal washer, flat washer, rubber gland, knurled coupling ring

Applications

  • Assembling or repairing high-voltage cable runs between a power supply and a Geiger counter, scintillation probe, or X-ray detector - where a standard BNC would be a safety violation
  • Replacing a damaged MHV plug on a nuclear detection system or radiation instrumentation cable assembly to restore safe, rated operation
  • Fabricating custom high-voltage interconnects for university physics lab benches or industrial R&D test setups
  • Restoring or maintaining legacy military avionics or radar hardware that specifies MHV terminations
  • Hobbyist high-voltage projects - Tesla coil instrumentation taps, high-voltage bench supply outputs, or DIY radiation detection builds where a proper HV coax termination matters

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this mate with a standard BNC jack?

No. Despite a similar physical appearance, MHV and BNC connectors are not intermateable. Attempting to force them together is a safety hazard. You need a mating MHV jack or receptacle on the equipment side.

What cables does this connector fit?

Designed for RG-58, RG-58A, RG-58C, and RG-141. Also compatible with RG-59, RG-62, Belden 8221, 8241, 9169, 9204, 9228, and Canare LV-61S - any flexible coaxial line of the same outer diameter family.

Is there a related variant - the UG-932A/U - and how does it differ?

The UG-932A/U (Amphenol 000-27975) is a related MHV straight clamp plug. Specific differences from the UG-932/U (Amphenol 000-28000) are not confirmed here. Verify the variant your equipment requires before ordering.

What is the frequency range?

MHV connectors are designed for high-voltage applications, not wideband RF. Typical usable range is DC to 300 MHz. For applications requiring precise impedance control at higher frequencies, MHV is not the right connector family.

Is anything else included with this connector?

The connector ships as a loose part with its assembly components: hex nut, center pin, metal washer, flat washer, and rubber gland - everything needed for cable termination. No tools or cable included.

A brass-and-nickel plug that has been sitting in a government lab drawer since the era when this connector was the right answer for high-voltage coax - and it still is. Wherever your build needs 5,000 volts to travel safely, this is where the cable ends.
