Product Overview
Volpi Fiber Optic Ring Illuminator with 32 in. Armored Light Guide, 65mm Mount - No Light Source Included
Condition
Used, in good condition. The photos are the spec on this one. The black anodized aluminum ring body carries the boxed Volpi logo and MADE IN U.S.A. printing, both fully legible, with light scuffing and fine scratches across the anodizing from prior bench service. Inside the bore, the annular light window reads clean and unclouded, and the knurled thumbscrew on the side of the ring is present and intact. The 32 in. armored light guide is straight and unkinked with its white sheathing carrying some yellowed staining and shop grime along the outer coils; the black ferrule at the far end is sound and the polished fiber bundle face is exposed and visible. No part number, model number or serial number is printed anywhere on the ring or on the guide. What ships is the ring illuminator and its attached light guide only - there is NO light source included, and this piece is meant to be used with a compatible fiber optic light source you supply. Sold on visual inspection: nothing here has been powered or bench tested, so no light output or transmission figure is claimed.

Product Overview
This is the ring end of a fiber optic microscope lighting setup, and only the ring end: a machined aluminum annulus that clamps around a microscope objective and pours cool, shadow-free light straight down onto the sample from every side at once. The ring takes a 65mm mount and leaves a 50mm opening for the objective to look through, and light arrives through the 32 in. flexible armored guide, which plugs into a separate halogen or LED fiber optic light source. That light source is not part of this listing - you pair the ring and guide with a compatible illuminator of your own. Because the lamp lives at the far end of the fiber, no heat reaches the stage, which is why this style of illuminator became standard on inspection benches working with heat-sensitive specimens and delicate assemblies. Volpi built this one in the USA, and the logo on the body is the only identification the piece carries - there is no part number or model number printed on it anywhere.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a light source come with it?
No. There is no light source in this listing and none is shown in the photos. You receive the ring illuminator and its attached 32 in. armored fiber guide, and you supply the compatible halogen or LED fiber optic light source the guide plugs into. If you do not already own one, budget for it before you buy this.
Will this fit my microscope?
It is built for a 65mm mount and leaves a 50mm opening through the ring, secured by the knurled thumbscrew on the side. Measure the outside diameter of your objective housing or nosepiece before ordering - fiber ring lights are sized to the barrel they clamp on, and this one is not adjustable beyond the thumbscrew.
What is the ferrule on the end of the guide?
The far end terminates in a black ferrule with a polished fiber bundle face, the common press-in style used by bench fiber optic illuminators. Check the receptacle bore on your own light source against the photos before ordering, since ferrule diameters vary between makers.
Is there a part number or model number I can look up?
Not on this piece. The ring body carries only the Volpi logo and MADE IN U.S.A., and the light guide is unmarked, so no part number is printed on the unit at all. We would rather tell you that plainly than invent a reference. If you need a factory number for a records match, identify it by the 65mm mount, the 50mm opening and the 32 in. armored guide instead.
It is used and there is no light source - what am I actually taking on here?
You are buying a single used ring illuminator and its fiber guide, exactly the one in these seven photos, sold on what the camera shows: clean optics in the bore, intact markings, a sound ferrule, and honest cosmetic wear on the anodizing and the guide sheathing. What you are taking on is the rest of the setup and the testing: no light source is included, and we have not powered this on a bench, so transmission is for you to confirm once it is plugged into your own illuminator. Everything is backed by our no-hassle satisfaction guarantee, this item clears our free shipping line on its own, and orders leave the Idaho warehouse the same or next business day.
Somebody in a US machine shop turned this ring out of a solid billet so a lamp could sit safely across the room from whatever was under the lens. Point your own light source down that 32 inches of armored fiber and see what it puts on your stage.
