Frequently Asked Questions
Are the two 1/2 in. ends the same size?
No. The tube end takes tubing with a 1/2 in. outside diameter. The 1/2 in. on the NPT end is a nominal pipe size, not a measured diameter.
Will it take 12 mm metric tube?
No. The tube end is sized for 1/2 in. OD tubing, and 12 mm tube is a different, smaller size. Metric tube needs a metric fitting.
What does the threaded end screw into?
Any 1/2 in. female NPT port: a valve body, regulator, manifold, pump or pipe coupling with that tapered thread. NPT seals on the taper, so the thread takes a sealant or PTFE tape at assembly.
Swagelok started out in 1947 as the Crawford Fitting Company, and the straight male connector is about as basic as that catalog gets: one tube, one threaded port, one hex for each wrench. Back up the body hex with one wrench while the other turns the nut.
