Condition
Used, clean and in good condition. The black molded case is intact and the white toggle handle, drilled through at the tip, carries a handwritten 100A in black marker rather than a molded or printed rating. The specification label is complete and legible: CA1-B2-34 810-311-C, GP AMP 100, MAX V. 65, HERTZ DC, FL. AMP 100, MAX V. 120/240, HERTZ 50/60, DELAY 34, TRIP AMPS 135, along with 564-1101-1, MEXICO, the LINE and LOAD terminal callouts, 9815, and two small agency certification marks. The reverse face is molded CARLINGSWITCH, INC. with U.S. PATENT 4,347,488, 4,504,807 and 4,760,226, OTHERS PEND. Both stud terminals carry their hex nuts and the threads are clean and bright. The three-pin auxiliary block on the bottom edge is present and its pins, marked C, NO and NC, are straight. Under flat light the case face shows scattered handling marks, and a small remnant of a paper label is stuck to one side. This breaker is sold untested, so the photos are the specification.

Magnetic hydraulic breakers trip from a solenoid coil damped by a fluid-filled tube rather than from a heating bimetal, which is why they behave the same way in a hot engine room as they do in a cold one and why their time delay is set by the coil and tube rather than by ambient temperature. The label on this unit reads CA1-B2-34 810-311-C and gives two rating groups: GP AMP 100 at MAX V. 65 on DC, and FL. AMP 100 at MAX V. 120/240 with HERTZ 50/60 on AC, with DELAY 34 and TRIP AMPS 135 printed alongside. What do the two rating groups on the label actually mean?
Carling prints the DC and AC ratings separately. On this label the DC group reads GP AMP 100, MAX V. 65, HERTZ DC, and the AC group reads FL. AMP 100, MAX V. 120/240, HERTZ 50/60. The 100 amp figure is the same on both sides; the voltage ceiling is what changes. Match your application to the correct group before you wire it in.
What is DELAY 34 and TRIP AMPS 135?
Those are the two figures Carling prints to describe how quickly the breaker responds to an overload. They are reproduced here exactly as they appear on the label. We have not run a trip curve on this unit, so if the timing matters to your design, check DELAY 34 against Carling published data for this series before use.
What is the three-pin block on the bottom edge?
It is an auxiliary switch block, and its pins are legibly marked C, NO and NC in the photos. On breakers of this type the auxiliary contacts follow the main handle so a panel can annunciate a trip. The pins on this piece are straight and undamaged, but the switch has not been tested, so meter it out before you wire it to anything that matters.
Is a magnetic hydraulic breaker the same as a thermal breaker?
No. A thermal breaker trips when a bimetal strip heats and bends, so its behavior shifts with ambient temperature. A magnetic hydraulic breaker like this one trips from a solenoid coil with a fluid damped delay tube, so the trip point stays consistent whether the panel is cold or baking. That is the reason this family shows up so often in marine, mobile and outdoor equipment.
It is used and untested - what am I actually getting?

What we can tell you is what the camera shows: a legible label, an intact case, an undamaged toggle handle, clean stud threads with their nuts on, and straight auxiliary pins. What we cannot tell you is whether it trips at 135 amps, or whether the handle throws and resets as it should, because we have not put it on a test bench and we will not tell you we did.
