Power Integrations Parts
Power Integrations was founded in 1988 and is based in San Jose, California. Its TOPSwitch family, first sold in 1994, put a high-voltage power MOSFET and a PWM controller on one chip for off-line switching power supplies, and the TinySwitch family followed in 1998.
The Power Integrations parts here are off-line switcher ICs: TOPSwitch and TinySwitch parts, and SMP-series switching regulators and PWM controllers.
How to spot one: the letter after a TOPSwitch-II number gives the package: Y is the TO-220, P is the 8-pin DIP and G is the 8-pin surface-mount. A TOPSwitch has three terminals (drain, source and control), so match the full number and package when you replace one.
