Product Overview

Unused ST Micro L7812CV: A Fixed 12V, 1.5A Rail in a TO-220 Tab Package

Condition

Unused NOS, sourced from an electronics distributor consolidating inventory. The photo shows the molded body marked L7812CV over date code WC6680019 over MOROCCO, with the ST logo and a small dark round stamp beside it that contains lettering we cannot resolve in the photo. The metal tab is bright, with a clean mounting hole and no scoring or wrench marks around it. All three leads are full length, straight and bright, with cut tips and no solder, no tinning residue, and no corrosion. No function testing performed; the grade is from visual inspection only. A loose fiber from the photo background lies across the left lead in the image and is not part of the device.

Product Overview

The ST Micro L7812CV is a fixed positive linear voltage regulator in a three-lead TO-220 through-hole package, rated for a nominal 12V output at 1.5A. It belongs to the widely used L78xx family, ST's version of the classic 78xx fixed positive regulator, which delivers a steady rail with very few external components and a tab that bolts down to a heatsink or chassis. This piece carries the factory markings you can read in the photo: L7812CV, date code WC6680019, and MOROCCO origin under the ST logo, so the part identity does not depend on our say-so. Leads are unbent and untinned, which matters if you are hand-loading a board and want the pins to drop into a 0.100 inch through-hole footprint without straightening work first.

Key Features

  • Fixed 12V positive output
  • 1.5A output current rating
  • TO-220 three-lead through-hole package with mounting-hole tab
  • Marked L7812CV, date code WC6680019, MOROCCO origin, ST logo
  • Leads straight and full length, bright, no bends, solder, or corrosion
  • Small dark round stamp beside the ST logo, with lettering inside that is not legible in the photo
  • Thermal overload and short-circuit protection - Not confirmed, typical of the L78xx family but not verified against the datasheet for this unit

Applications

  • Bench technician repairing an analog instrument whose original 12V regulator has failed short and needs an exact-footprint replacement
  • Audio builder feeding a clean 12V rail to op-amp stages where switching noise is not welcome
  • Controls tech restocking a panel spares drawer with the regulator that shows up on older relay and sensor boards
  • Hobbyist prototyping a 12V section on perfboard who wants a tab package that can be heatsinked as the load grows

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is printed on the part?

Three lines on the molded face: L7812CV, then WC6680019, then MOROCCO, with the ST logo below and a small dark round stamp next to it. Those three lines and the ST logo are legible in the product photo; the characters inside the round stamp are not, so we do not claim a reading for them.

Is this the same thing as a 7812 from another manufacturer?

The L7812CV is ST's part in the common 78xx fixed positive regulator family, and the 12V designation is consistent with that family. We have not bench-compared it to another maker's 7812, so if you are substituting into an existing design, check pinout, tolerance, and dropout against the ST L7812CV datasheet before you commit the board.

Does it need a heatsink?

That depends on your input voltage and load current, and we cannot answer it for your circuit. The TO-220 tab has a clean mounting hole ready for a heatsink or chassis mount. Not confirmed - work the thermal numbers from the ST L7812CV datasheet for your own operating point.

What is included?

One L7812CV regulator per unit of quantity. No datasheet, no heatsink, no mounting hardware, no insulating pad.

This one has not been powered up. What am I actually getting?

You are getting an unused NOS regulator exactly as photographed: factory markings intact, tab clean, leads straight, bright, and free of solder. What you are taking on is that we did not power it up or measure its output, so there is no function test behind it. The photo and the markings are the spec, and we sell it on that basis, not on a test report. If your build needs verified tolerance or thermal behavior, plan to check it against the ST datasheet on your own bench. Shipping is $8 flat rate and free once your order passes $28, and orders leave our Idaho warehouse the same or next business day.

Stamped MOROCCO under an ST logo, this one came off a distributor shelf rather than a scrapped board, so its first solder joint has not happened yet. Bolt it down and let it handle the boring, steady part of your 12V rail.
