Product Overview

Raychem SRP120 is a polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) resettable overcurrent device designed specifically for battery cell and battery pack protection. When an overcurrent or short circuit event generates excessive heat, the polymer element transitions from low resistance to high resistance, choking the fault current. Once power is removed and the element cools, the PolySwitch resets automatically without requiring replacement. The SRP series features weldable nickel axial straps intended for direct spot-welding onto rechargeable cells.

Key Features

  • Hold current (Ih): 1.2 A at 25°C
  • Trip current (It): 2.7 A at 25°C
  • Maximum operating voltage: 15 V
  • Maximum fault current rating: 100 A
  • Initial resistance: 0.085 Ω minimum to 0.160 Ω maximum
  • Post-trip resistance: 0.220 Ω maximum
  • Axial nickel strap leads designed for spot welding
  • Operating temperature range: -40°C to +85°C

Applications

  • Spot-welding directly into custom Li-ion or NiMH battery assemblies to provide non-destructive overcurrent protection.
  • Servicing power tool and handheld electronics battery packs requiring factory-spec resettable thermal fuses.
  • Benchtop prototyping of low-voltage DC power supply rails where self-resetting fault isolation prevents blown fuses.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you install this strap fuse into a circuit?

The SRP120 uses flat nickel straps engineered for resistance spot welding directly onto battery tabs and cell terminals. They can also be soldered carefully using appropriate flux, though excessive heat input must be minimized to avoid tripping or damaging the polymer material.

What is the difference between hold current and trip current?

Hold current (1.2 A) is the maximum steady-state current the device will pass continuously without tripping. Trip current (2.7 A) is the minimum current guaranteed to force the device into its high-resistance protective state at standard room temperature.

Why buy the exact quantity you need here?

You can buy the exact count needed for your pack rebuild or prototype bench without getting stuck with excess reels or bulk factory minimums. More pieces cost less each, and the price-break table on this page shows what each quantity costs. Orders leave our Idaho warehouse the same or next business day with $8 flat-rate shipping, or free shipping once your order passes $28.

Spot-weld it across the battery terminals, close up the pack, and let polymer physics handle the unexpected shorts.
