Product Overview
An orange-tan ceramic disc on two radial leads, printed across three lines: B, then 471K, then 1 KV. Against the inch ruler in frame the disc runs about 7.5 mm across, which is a very small package for a kilovolt part, and no brand or logo is visible in these photos. Discs like this are the standard high-voltage bypass and coupling part in tube, ignition and flyback work.
Key Features
- Capacitance 470 pF, that is 0.00047 uF, from the marked code 471 read on a picofarad base as 47 x 10 pF
- Tolerance +/- 10 percent, from the tolerance letter K
- 1 KV, quoted exactly as the body prints it; the marking does not state whether that is DC or AC
- Ceramic disc body, orange-tan, approximately 7.5 mm across against the inch ruler in frame
- Radial through-hole leads for printed circuit board assembly
- Marking quoted verbatim across three lines: B, 471K, 1 KV. The leading B is quoted and not interpreted
- Ceramic class and temperature coefficient are not printed on the body and are not claimed here
- Verify against TDK's published marking and ordering code system for three-digit picofarad codes before designing in.
Applications
- High-voltage bypass and coupling in tube audio and radio gear
- Snubber and spark-suppression positions on ignition and flyback circuits
- Small-value timing where the working voltage has to stay well clear of the rating
- Repair stock for older boards that use kilovolt disc capacitors
Frequently Asked Questions
How many should I order? Order the count the board needs and a few over; we are holding 170 of them, so both a single replacement and a pass through a whole chassis come from the same shelf. Shipping is $8 flat rate and free on orders over $28, so small parts like this ship smartest as part of a larger order.
Is this 470 pF or 471 pF? 470 pF. The 471 on the body is a three-digit code, 47 followed by one zero on a picofarad base, not a value in picofarads. Anyone reading the body as 471 pF is off by a digit's worth of rounding, and the K after it is the +/- 10 percent tolerance letter.
An orange chip you could lose in a seam, printed for a thousand volts.
