ALTERA's EPS448 EPLD is a user-configurable, function-specific stand-alone microsequencer (SAM). It comes in a 28-pin windowed ceramic DIP package.
A branch-control logic, pipeline register, stack, and loop counter are integrated into the on-chip EPROM of each EPS448 device. A broad range of high-performance controllers can be efficiently implemented using this generic microcoded architecture, from state machines to waveform generation.
Applications such as programmable sequence generators (state machines), bus and memory control functions, graphics and DSP algorithm controllers, and other high-performance control logic are ideal for the EPS448.
In order to increase output capabilities, EPS448 devices can be cascaded horizontally, and vertically in order to deepen microcode memory.
