New, unused stock. In our photos the lens is a colorless water clear epoxy dome with the die and reflector cup plainly visible through it, and the leads are bright, straight, and untrimmed with no oxidation or solder on them. Against the PartsMine millimeter ruler the body measures approximately 5 mm across with roughly 26 mm of lead, about 35 mm overall. The other two photos show one of these parts powered on a solderless breadboard, glowing a saturated red from a clear lens. Sold as individual LEDs, loose, without packaging or a resistor.

What series resistor should I use with this LED?

Size it from your supply. Take your rail voltage, subtract the 3.0 to 3.4 VDC forward voltage listed here, and divide by 0.02 A. From a 5 V rail that lands near 90 ohms, so 100 ohms is the usual standard value. No resistor is included.

Does the lens look red when the LED is off?

No. The unlit photo shows a colorless, glass-like clear dome. The red comes only from the die, which is why the powered photos look so different from the ruler shot. If you need a part that reads red while dark, you want a diffused red lens instead.

Which lead is positive?

The two leads in our photo are close in length, so do not judge polarity by eye. Check it with a meter's diode test or with the flat on the lens flange before you solder or before you commit a breadboard row.

Is the 25 degree figure the viewing angle?

The original spec for this part reads 6000-7000 mcd at 25 degrees and nothing further. Whether that describes beam angle or test conditions is not confirmed here, so verify against the datasheet for your build if beam width matters.
