Product Overview
PartsMine UM-3_2X2-Stack is a 4-cell AA battery holder in a 2x2 stacked (double-layer) configuration. Four AA cells wired in series deliver 6.0V DC nominal with standard 1.5V alkaline cells, or 4.8V DC with 1.2V NiMH rechargeables. Pre-attached 26 AWG red and black wire leads, 140mm (5.5 inches) long, connect directly to a switch, connector, or PCB. Integrated mounting holes on both end plates allow screw-mounting inside an enclosure.
Key Features
- Holds 4 x AA (UM-3 / R6 / LR6) cells in a 2x2 stacked double-layer layout
- Nominal output: 6.0V DC (alkaline) or 4.8V DC (NiMH rechargeable)
- 140mm (5.5 in) red and black 26 AWG wire leads, pre-stripped
- Dimensions: approximately 57mm (L) x 32mm (W) x 29mm (H)
- Mounting holes on both end plates for screw or adhesive mounting
- Steel coil-spring contacts at negative terminals; flat metal plates at positive terminals
- No built-in switch or cover - open-frame design for maximum wiring flexibility
Applications
- Soldering the leads into an Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or ESP32 project where a flat 1x4 holder is too wide for the enclosure - the 2x2 stack fits neatly into square or deep cavities
- Wiring into a 3D-printed robotics chassis as the onboard 6V supply, secured through the integrated mounting holes
- Replacing a corroded or broken battery compartment in a vintage handheld game or RC transmitter - mount inside the bay and solder leads to the device's power input terminals
- Powering a breadboard prototype during development before a permanent power solution is designed in
- Building a portable 6V supply for sensors, small motors, or LED arrays in maker and hobbyist projects
Frequently Asked Questions
What battery size does this holder accept?
AA cells only - also listed as UM-3, R6, or LR6. It does not accept AAA, C, D, or 18650 cells.
What voltage does this produce?
6.0V DC nominal with four standard 1.5V alkaline AA cells. With 1.2V NiMH rechargeable cells the output is 4.8V DC.
Does it include a switch or cover?
No. This is an open-frame holder without a built-in ON/OFF switch or protective cover. Wire an external switch into the circuit if your project requires one.
Will this fit where a flat 1x4 AA holder fits?
Not always. The 2x2 stacked layout measures approximately 29mm tall - roughly twice the height of a flat single-layer holder. It fits in less horizontal space but needs more vertical clearance. Confirm your enclosure has at least 30mm of depth before ordering.
How do I mount it?
Mounting holes are integrated into both end plates for screw mounting. Double-sided tape or hook-and-loop fastener also work on the flat surfaces of the body.
The 2x2 stack exists because sometimes the right answer to a tight enclosure is to go up instead of sideways. Drop four AAs in, run the leads where you need them, and get on with the build.
