Product Overview
UM-3X4 four-cell AA battery holder in molded black plastic. Holds four standard AA batteries in series for a nominal 6V output (alkaline) or 4.8V (NiMH/NiCd). Red and black insulated wire leads exit the top. Two integrated mounting holes allow screw-down installation. Spring contacts in each bay keep batteries seated under vibration.
Key Features
- Holds 4 AA cells (UM-3, LR6, R6) in series
- Nominal output: 6.0V with 1.5V alkaline cells; 4.8V with 1.2V NiMH or NiCd
- Red and black insulated wire leads, stripped and tinned
- Nickel-plated steel coil spring contacts in all four bays
- Two integrated mounting holes for screw-down installation
- Compact molded black plastic housing with slide-cover bottom
- Molded markings: SIZE AA or EQUIV, UM-3X4, 1.5V per cell
Applications
- Prototyping with Arduino, ESP32, or Raspberry Pi Pico - strip the leads and solder directly to a PCB or adapt to a DC barrel jack for instant portable 6V power without dedicated charging circuitry
- Powering the receiver and servos in a 1/8 or 1/10 scale nitro RC car - mount through the chassis using the integrated holes to keep the pack secure during high-speed runs
- Bench power for low-drain circuits - drop in four AAs and clip the leads to a breadboard rail for a clean 6V supply you can swap out in seconds
- Robotics chassis power for small wheeled or tracked platforms where AA batteries are easier to source mid-project than specialty packs
- Emergency field replacement for any 4.8-6V device that originally used a proprietary battery pack - AAs are available everywhere
Frequently Asked Questions
What battery size does this holder accept?
Four AA batteries, also known as UM-3, LR6, or R6. It is physically incompatible with AAA, C, D, 18650, or any other cell size.
Does this holder include a power switch or a cover?
No built-in On/Off switch. The housing has a slide-cover bottom but no integrated switch. If your project requires a physical cutoff, wire an inline switch to the leads.
What is the wire gauge on the leads?
26 AWG. Suitable for low-current loads. Not designed for high-drain devices where heavy current draw could cause voltage drop or wire heating.
Can I mount this permanently inside a chassis or enclosure?
Yes. Two integrated mounting holes are molded into the housing for screw-down installation, which is how RC builders typically secure it inside a vehicle chassis.
Four AAs, a couple of solder joints, and a project that was stuck on power has somewhere to go. The mundane parts are the ones that actually keep things running.
