Product Overview

Banner Engineering T30UXDCQ8 - part of the U-GAGE T30UX Series - is an M30 cylindrical ultrasonic proximity sensor with discrete output. It uses 114 kHz sound waves to detect objects without contact, regardless of target color, transparency, or surface finish. Output is one NPN/PNP discrete signal, selectable Normally Open or Normally Closed, making it a direct drop-in for PLC discrete input cards. The integral 4-pin M12 Euro-style quick disconnect and IP67/NEMA 6 rating suit it for demanding industrial environments. Alternate part number: 80460.

Key Features

  • Sensing range: 300 mm to 3 m (11.8" to 118.1"); minimum blind zone 300 mm
  • Output: 1 NPN/PNP discrete, NO/NC selectable via push-button or remote teach
  • Supply voltage: 10-30 V DC
  • Connection: 4-pin M12 Euro-style integral quick disconnect
  • Housing: M30 cylindrical threaded barrel
  • IP67 / NEMA 6 rated - sealed against dust and temporary immersion
  • Operating temperature: -40°C to +70°C (-40°F to +158°F)
  • Ultrasonic frequency: 114 kHz
  • Response time: 135 ms
  • Temperature-compensated ultrasonic measurement for stable readings across ambient swings

Applications

  • Maintenance tech replaces a failing photoelectric sensor on a conveyor line where clear bottles or black rubber parts defeat optical detection - mounts the T30UXDCQ8, connects the M12 cable to the PLC input card, and uses the teach button to set detection limits in minutes
  • Automation engineer configures the sensor for tank level monitoring in a liquid filling machine, relying on IP67 sealing to survive washdown cycles without sensor changeouts
  • OEM design engineer integrates the NPN/PNP selectable output into a new material stacking system where the same sensor model must work across customer PLCs wired for either sinking or sourcing inputs
  • Maker or hobbyist builds a non-contact distance-triggered relay using the discrete output to switch loads at a set range - no analog conversion needed, just clean on/off logic at 10-30 V DC
  • Double-sheet detection on a press feed: sensor flags when two sheets pass instead of one, catching misfeeds that cost color, transparency, and surface variation makes optical sensing unreliable

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this work with my NPN-wired PLC input card?

Yes. The T30UXDCQ8 output is NPN/PNP selectable. The wiring diagram on the sensor label shows the configuration for each mode. Connect accordingly and use the teach function to set your detection window.

Does this include a mating M12 cable?

No cable is included. The sensor terminates in a 4-pin M12 Euro-style integral quick disconnect. A standard 4-pin M12 straight or right-angle cordset is required and is sourced separately.

Can this sensor do continuous distance measurement or analog output?

No. The T30UXDCQ8 provides only a discrete (on/off) switched output. For continuous distance measurement, Banner's T30UX analog variants (T30UXUCQ8 for 0-10 V, T30UXICQ8 for 4-20 mA) serve that function. This model is for presence detection within a set window.

What environments will degrade performance?

Heavy foam, steam, vapor, strong air turbulence, and rapid temperature gradients in the sensing path can interfere with the ultrasonic signal. Extreme acoustic noise or mechanical vibration at the transducer can also affect reliability. The sensor is not rated for personnel safety applications.

Is 135 ms response time fast enough for my application?

At 135 ms, this sensor suits most presence-detection and level-sensing applications on standard conveyor and filling lines. High-speed sorting or very fast-moving targets may require a photoelectric sensor with a faster response time. Verify your cycle rate before ordering.

Ultrasonic sensing earns its place on lines where optics give up - clear targets, dark targets, wet targets, targets that change every run. This one is ready to teach, ready to wire, and ready to do the job the photoelectric couldn't.
