The MPSA42 is a high voltage NPN silicon transistor that puts 300 V VCEO and 300 V VCBO into an ordinary TO-92 plastic body (onsemi's published MPSA42 data).

The representative unit photographed reads MPS on the top line, A42 on the second and the Motorola batwing followed by 443 on the third, all of it on the flat face; the rounded back of the same body carries nothing but a small circular mould mark with a cross through it. 443 is the code string as it comes off the body and it stays a string here, because the published data behind this page decodes nothing about these Motorola-era markings and a date read out of them would be invention. The three leads are long, straight and untrimmed, photographing dark grey in the wide shot and grey with a duller cast in hand.

Your board still has to. onsemi's published MPSA42 data gives 300 V for both VCEO and VCBO and 6 V for VEBO, all in the same plastic body a 40 V small signal part comes in, and nothing about the package grows to match the voltage - lead spacing, creepage and clearance to the neighbouring track are yours to get right. The base-emitter rating deserves a second look too: 6 V is not much reverse drive.
