What Surface devices are compatible with this dock?
The Surface Dock 1661 requires a Surface Connect port. It was designed for the Surface Pro 3, Pro 4, and Surface Book. Many newer Surface models with a Surface Connect port are also reported compatible. Surface devices with USB-C only (no Surface Connect port) will not work with this dock.
Is the power adapter included?
No. The dock ships without a power adapter. The 1661 requires a 90W power supply (Model 1749, 15V/6A) to deliver charging power to your Surface. The dock and its ports may operate at reduced capability without it, depending on your Surface model.
What is the audio jack for?
The 3.5mm jack is audio output only. It does not support microphone input. For headsets with a combined mic/audio plug, you would need a USB audio adapter or the microphone on your Surface device.
Is this the same as the Surface Dock 2?
No. The Surface Dock 2 is a newer model with USB-C ports, higher-speed data transfer, and dual 4K @ 60 Hz display support. The 1661 (sometimes called Surface Dock 1) uses Mini DisplayPort outputs and USB 3.0 Type-A ports, and supports up to 4096 x 2160 @ 30 Hz. Both use Surface Connect.
What condition is the unit in?
Used and tested functional. Light surface scratching on the top face and some dust in the port openings - wipe it down and it is ready to work. Connector pins on the Surface Connect cable are intact and undamaged.
Dust them off, wipe them down, and save some real money - a working Surface dock at a fraction of new pricing is a hard thing to argue with.
