Microchip Technology began as the microelectronics division of General Instrument, maker of the PIC microcontroller, and became independent in 1989. It is based in Chandler, Arizona, and bought Micrel in 2015 and Atmel in 2016.
The Microchip parts here are 8-bit PIC microcontrollers from the PIC12 and PIC16 families in DIP packages, parallel EEPROMs and low-dropout voltage regulators from the Micrel line.
How to spot one: the part after the dash is the speed in MHz and the part after the slash is the package, so PIC16F876-20/SP is a 20 MHz part in a skinny plastic DIP and /P is a standard plastic DIP. An I before the slash marks the industrial temperature range.
