Condition

New old stock. The relay photographed here is bright and unused: the copper coil bobbin is clean, the armature and its return spring are silver and untarnished, and the gold-colored contact assemblies show no arc pitting or blackening through the clear cover. The case is printed R10-E1W4-115V and 115VAC on one face, with a contact schematic, CSA and UL Recognized (RU) marks, a 7.5A line and a 120VAC RES rating line, and MEXICO. Part of that rating line is obscured by the terminal comb at this camera angle, so read it off the part in hand before you spec it. The blade terminals are straight and evenly spaced, and a captive screw sits in its boss at the top of the case. The last photo shows the Potter & Brumfield Control Components carton the photographed relay came in; it was taken out of its box for the camera. The photos are the spec for the piece photographed.

What does 4PDT actually give me here?

Four independent pole sets, each with a normally open and a normally closed contact, all driven together by the one 115VAC coil. That is four separate circuits you can switch or transfer from a single command, which is why these turn up as interposing relays where one signal has to do several jobs at once.

Is the 7.5A rating good for my load?

The case prints 7.5A along with a 120VAC RES line, and RES means resistive. Inductive loads, motors, transformers and lamp inrush all derate a contact set, and part of that printed rating line is hidden behind the terminal comb in these photos. Check the figure on the relay in your hand against the Potter & Brumfield R10 datasheet before you commit it to a load near the limit.

Has this relay been electrically tested?

No. It is sold as new old stock on the strength of its condition and its markings, not on a bench report. Coil resistance and contact continuity are a two-minute check with a meter before you wire it in, and worth doing on any part that has been on a shelf this long.
