Product Overview

Cole Hersee 8706 Push Button Switch - Normally Off, Momentary On, Panel Mount, Made in the USA

Condition

New old stock in excellent condition. The photos show the actual unit: a gold chromate plated housing over a black molded base, a bright plated threaded mounting bushing, and a plain metal plunger with no paint or cap. A molded marking on the black base is only partly legible in the photos, and there is faint stamped text on the chromate housing that the camera cannot resolve. Photographed alongside it are a hex mounting nut, a thin round nut, and three brass slotted head screws. One piece available.

Product Overview

The Cole Hersee 8706 is a heavy duty momentary push button switch rated 3A at 135VAC, wired normally off with momentary on: the circuit closes only while the plunger is held down and opens the instant it is released. It is a panel mount design, with a threaded bushing that passes through a drilled hole and clamps from behind with a panel nut. The terminal end photo shows two brass screw terminals set into the black insulating base, so field wiring is a matter of a ring or spade lug under a screw head rather than soldering. Made in the USA, and stocked here as a single unused piece for anyone matching an original 8706 rather than substituting a modern lookalike.

Applications

  • Marine electrician replacing a tired horn or bilge test button on a dash panel that already has the hole drilled
  • Truck and tractor restorer who wants the original style metal plunger button instead of a plastic modern replacement
  • Machine builder wiring a momentary start or jog input where the circuit must open the moment the operator lets go
  • Bench technician building a test fixture that needs a rugged, screw terminal momentary contact rather than a PCB tact switch

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this switch normally open or normally closed?

Normally off, momentary on. The contacts are open at rest and close only while you press the plunger, then open again as soon as you release it. It does not latch.

What is it rated for?

3A at 135VAC, as specified for the Cole Hersee 8706. A DC rating is not confirmed - verify against Cole Hersee published data before using it on a 12V or 24V load.

Does it come with the mounting nut and screws?

What you see in the photos is what we have here: the switch, a hex mounting nut, a thin round nut, and three brass slotted head screws. If the exact hardware matters for your build, ask us before ordering and we will confirm what is in the bin.

What size hole does the panel need?

Not confirmed. We have not measured the bushing thread, and the ruler in our photos will not resolve it to a usable tolerance. Measure the bushing on arrival or check the Cole Hersee dimensions before you drill.

Why buy a single switch here instead of a multi-pack from a big marketplace?

Because a dash panel usually needs one button, not ten. PartsMine sells the exact quantity you need for the repair in front of you, and this is a single piece. Shipping is $8 flat rate and free over $28, same or next business day from Idaho, so one small switch does not turn into a forced lot plus freight.

Push to make hardware like this spent its working life waking horns, starters, and warning buzzers, alive only for as long as a thumb stayed down. This one never got its turn on a panel, so the first press is yours.
