Sony Parts

Sony was founded in Tokyo in 1946 by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita as Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo and took the Sony name in 1958. It made radios, televisions, audio gear and VCRs, and introduced the Betamax video format in 1975.

The Sony parts here are mostly VCR service parts, such as capstan motors, pinch roller arm assemblies, band tension regulators and other deck mechanism assemblies, plus NPN transistors.

How to spot one: Sony service parts carry a numbered code in the form 3-946-917-01. Match that full number, since mechanical parts that look alike can differ between VCR models. Japanese transistors often drop the 2S prefix from the marking, so a part marked C403 is a 2SC403.
