Merit Abrasives Parts
Merit Abrasives was based in Compton, California, with plants in Ohio, Mexico and Scotland, and made flap wheels, flap discs and quick-change discs. Saint-Gobain bought the company in 2001, and Merit flap wheels are now sold through Saint-Gobain's Norton Abrasives line.
The Merit parts here are Grind-O-Flex shank-mounted flap wheels in 80 and 120 grit aluminum oxide, from small 3/8 in. wheels on 1/8 in. shanks up to 2 in. wheels on 1/4 in. shanks. Flap wheels blend, deburr and finish metal in a die grinder or rotary tool.
How to pick one: sizes read diameter x face width x shank diameter, so 2 x 1 x 1/4 is a 2 in. wheel, 1 in. wide, on a 1/4 in. shank. Match the shank to your collet and keep the tool under the speed rating on the wheel.
